Activists Launch Save Zimbabwe Now, Movement Calls for End to Suffering in African Country

In an effort to end the political battle that has left Zimbabweans facing a humanitarian crisis activists have launched the Save Zimbabwe Now movement.

The Save Zimbabwe Now movement is based in Johannesburg and has already organized a fast and hunger strike as a show of solidarity with those suffering in Zimbabwe. Activists have called for an end to the political stalemate in the country and demanded African leaders recognize Zimbabwe has no legal government.

Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe and opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai of the Movement for Democratic Change party have failed to reach a resolution to the power-sharing agreement that was reached four months ago. That deadlock has paralyzed the country and left citizens facing food shortages, a cholera outbreak, a lack of clean water and a collapse in the health and education systems.

Save Zimbabwe Now has pointed to Mugabe as the source of the suffering as the leader has refused to follow through with the concessions reached in the power-sharing agreement.
