Texas couple sues oil companies for asbestos related illnesses

By: Daun Lee

Walter and Sharon Clark filed a lawsuit against nine different oil and refinery companies for damages related to her husband’s asbestos induced ailments. Asbestos is often used in the oil refinery industry due to its fire retardant properties.  The lawsuit names Exxon Mobil Corp., Chevron, Gulf Oil Corp., Mobil Refining Corp., Mobil Chemical, Texaco and Union Oil if California plus three other defendants.

Walter Clark worked for years using the asbestos materials manufactured by the defendants in the lawsuit. Mr. Clark is deceased, but his widow and mesothelioma attorneys are seeking damages for the pain and suffering her husband endured after he contracted mesothelioma, which is an aggressive cancer caused by inhaling asbestos fibers.

Mesothelioma affects the delicate lining of the lungs and other internal organs. There is no cure for mesothelioma, and eventually takes the patient’s life. Some people survive for years, but most patients succumb to mesothelioma months after diagnosis.

Mrs. Clark and her mesothelioma lawyers assert the defendants are guilty of causing her husband’s illness because they used asbestos material despite the knowledge that it causes serious harm to the respiratory system. Asbestos is the direct cause of the mesothelioma, and can take a few decades to manifest in the patient. The treatments for mesothelioma and other asbestos-related illnesses can be extremely expensive, therefore the victims deserve to recoup the related costs. Mesothelioma attorneys apply their expertise to gain compensation for people who are suffering from asbestos exposure.
