NY highway worker dies in accident

Errol Wilson, 59, lost his life last night while he was trying to make a repair on the Cross Island Parkway. Wilson was struck by a DOT vehicle driven by a colleague Tuesday morning around 1am.  Police are investigating the cause of the accident, but believe there was no criminal negligence involved.

Wilson worked with the Department for 18 years and is survived by a wife and two children. Janette Sadik-Kahn, Commissioner of the NYC Department of Transportation, stated that Errol Wilson will be missed by the department, and was one of their best employees. He regularly took dangerous assignments to ensure the citizens could travel safely throughout the city.

Accidental injuries or fatalities are, unfortunately, a common occurrence on our streets and highways. Losing a person like Wilson, who made it their duty to repair the roads in order to keep them safe for other drivers, is a tragedy.

The accident in New York hasn’t been attributed to the other driver’s negligence. The majority of accidents on our streets are caused by another person’s carelessness. The people who are injured or killed will have many financial burdens placed on them. Retaining an accident attorney can help accident victims recoup their medical and burial costs.

Accident lawyers work to make negligent drivers accountable for their actions or inaction. The representation of an accident attorney can give those injured the confidence that they will be taken care of in their time of need.
