Australian Open 2009 Round Two Results: Andy Murray Cruises into Third Round with Straight Set Victory Over Marcel Granollers

Andy Murray has played just five sets at the 2008 Australian open yet the Englishman is into the third round after dropping Marcel Granollers 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 following his opening round victory over Andrei Pavel who was forced to retire in the second set.

Murray picked on Granollers serve all day, breaking the Spaniard on 6 of 16 opportunities and feasting on second serve offerings. While Murray didn’t look sensational he managed to control his serve well enough to allow Granollers just two shots at breaking and allowing that to happen only once.

Murray was bounced out of the Australian Open in the first round last year and his best finish in Melbourne was a fourth round appearance in 2007. While he Murray has never won a Grand Slam singles title he did reach the U.S. Open final in 2008 where he fell to Roger Federer.
