Tsonga survived a marathon battle with Ivan Ljubicic to advance to the third
round of the Australian Open, dropping his Croatian opponent in four sets 6-7
(4-7), 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (9-7), 6-2.
Tsonga
hammered out 18 aces and won 82 percent of his first serves while allowing
Ljubicic only one chance to break his serve. The Frenchman collected 71 winners
in the match that lasted almost three and a half hours.
Tsonga
has yet to win a Grand Slam singles title but reached the finals of the Australian
Open last year where he fell to Novak Djokovic.
