As a new administration assumes the White House and the upper echelons of national government in the United States, it is important that we continue to serve justice to those affected by asbestos exposure.
On many occasions, conservative lawmakers looking to serve special interests and greedy corporations, have attempted to eliminate the ability for victims of asbestos exposure to obtain the fair trial and compensation they deserve.
Certain pieces of legislation have attempted to fund a trust that would categorize payouts for asbestos-related injuries or health complications. These payouts are drastically underfunded and would establish a finite number of dollars available for future victims, the number of which is impossible to determine as most asbestos disease, such as
mesothelioma, can take decades after exposure to develop.
Mesothelioma.com urges the next phase of national government in this country to continue to oppose this type of legislation, which steals the power of trial from the victims of asbestos exposure and allows corporations to wash their hands of the harm they've inflicted on these people.
We need to continue to allow these people the right to have the measure of their suffering fairly and justly compensated. Anything less than full right to trial not only undermines the citizen's rights, but also undermines the principles upon which this country was established.
