2 Americans Wounded in Attack by Taliban

United States officials have confirmed two Americans were wounded when the Taliban attacked a U.S. consulate convoy in Peshawar, Pakistan. Police say the group remotely detonated a car bomb as the convoy drove by.

In addition to the two Americans, ten others were wounded and one Pakistani was killed. A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy said the Americans suffered only minor injuries. Both were security guards.

The attack is under investigation. It was the first attack on Americans since al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed in Abbottabad by a team of Navy Seals on May 2. A Taliban spokesman vowed to “continue such attacks.”

"The diplomatic staff of all NATO countries are our targets," a Taliban spokesman told Reuters. "We will continue such attacks. Pakistan is our first target, and America is our second."
