'Macho Man' Randy Savage Dies in Car Accident
Famed Wrestler Randy Savage Dies at Age of 58
On Friday, popular American wrestler Randy "Macho Man" Savage died after crashing his car in Florida. He was 58.
According to a crash report by the Florida Highway Patrol, the former wrestler lost control of his Jeep Wrangler in Pinellas County and crashed head-on into a tree.
Barbara Poffo, the wife of Savage (real name Randy Mario Poffo), was in the car at the time of the accident but received only minor injuries.
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) said in a statement, "Poffo will be greatly missed by WWE and his fans... Our sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends."
Savage was a popular wrestler in the WWE, World Wrestling Federation, and World Championship Wrestling. He was well-known for his distinctive raspy voice and his flamboyant clothing, which included bandanas, large sunglasses, cowboy hats, and more.
Savage was also well-known for having been a spokesperson for Slim Jim. His popular catchphrase was "Snap into a Slim Jim!"
Hulk Hogan, with whom Savage had a famed rivalry, said about Savage that "He had so much life in his eyes & in his spirit, I just pray that he's happy and in a better place and we miss him."
