Andy
Roddick blasted his way past Fabrice Santoro in the third round of the Australian
Open, knocking off the Frenchman in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the
fourth round in Melbourne.
Roddick
hammered out 22 aces in the match and won 85 percent of his first serves while
collecting 50 winners. Santoro was just overmatched by the American, managing
just four aces in the match and failing to break Roddick’s serve.
Roddick
has one Grand Slam singles title to his credit, a 2003 win at the U.S. Open. He
has reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open on three occasions but fell
in each of those matches. The American has also appeared in a pair of Wimbledon
finals but lost to Roger Federer both times.
