Bernard Hopkins Becomes Oldest Boxing Title Winner Ever

Boxing Legend Sets New Milestone With Win

On Saturday night, boxing great Bernard Hopkins became the oldest fighter to win a major world championship.

At the age of 46, Hopkins won the WBC Light Heavyweight title by defeating 28-year-old Canadian fighter Jean Pascal.

Hopkins beat the previous record set by boxing legend George Foreman, who won a heavyweight title in 1994 at the age of 45.

Hopkins (52-5-2) took the WBC, IBO, and The Ring magazine titles from Pascal (26-2-1). The fight was a rematch of their draw in December.

"He's a great champion. He has great defense and a lot of tricks. I was a young champion," Pascal said of Hopkins after the fight. "These two fights will help take me to the next level. I learned a lot from Bernard and his style."

During the fight, Hopkins taunted Pascal by doing push-ups while he waited for Pascal to start the seventh round. He also played up his impressive physical fitness before and after the fight.

"I won't retire until I'm 50," said Hopkins.

Hopkins is scheduled to fight 28-year-old American fighter Chad Dawson (30-1) next.
