Jim Hartley, founder and president of the U.S. Putting Tour, was interviewed by the hosts of Golf Talk Radio on Saturday and provided additional details on the golf tour's upcoming 2011 national championship.
In talking with hosts Mike and Billy, Mr. Hartley revealed that golfers who enter the championship will play a maximum of two days. Hartley explained that all competitors will select the day during Championship Week they want to play their first round, which consists of 72 holes of putting.
Golfers advancing from the first round will play on Sunday, October 2, the final day of the seven-day putting event. Mr. Hartley said that a total of 72 golfers will move on to begin play on Championship Sunday. These golfers will play 36 holes of putting in the morning, after which there will be another cut, with the low 24 scores from Sunday morning advancing to play another 36 holes in the afternoon to determine the winner of the
putting championship.
Hartley went on to say that golfers wanting to stay abreast of the latest information on the
putting tour and championship can follow the USPT on Facebook by going to the U.S. Putting Tour website, clicking on the Facebook link, then clicking the Like button on the USPT page.
The U.S. Putting Tour also has launched a
golf sponsors page at its website, which lets golfers learn more about the companies that are supporting the tour and the USPT Championship. More putting tour and sponsor information can be found on the tour's Twitter page and at its blog, links to both of which can be found at the USPT website.
In his interview, Mr. Hartey encouraged golfers from outside of Southern California to sign up for the championship early so they can get their choice of round one days. He indicated that he anticipates Saturday, October 1 to fill up the soonest.
