Jeff Conaway in a Coma After Possible Drug Overdose

Jeff Conaway’s latest setback is a big one, and it should serve as a wake-up call to others lost in a web of long-time substance abuse.

Jeff Conaway, best known for his role as Kenickie in Grease and for playing Bobby Wheeler in the sitcom Taxi has had another sizeable setback in his struggle to overcome drug addiction and major health problems.

Conaway in Coma

The 60-year-old actor was discovered unconscious on May 11, 2011, and is currently in the hospital in a coma and is unresponsive, his manager, Phil Brock, told E! News. Other news outlets are now attributing the coma to a possible drug overdose related to pain medication.

Conaway was already dealing with an injury from a 2010 fall and ongoing back pain and surgeries that are credited with contributing to his substance abuse. His heartbreaking battle was televised during his 2008 appearance on Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew.

Conaway’s Drug Use

Cocaine, methadone and OxyContin are all drugs he’s reportedly used during his long battle with drug addiction. Because of his willingness to go public, Conaway has put a face on the issue of chronic pain and the dangers of prescription addiction.
