A series of 15 explosions in Baghdad Sunday morning left 18 people dead and 77 others wounded. Iraqi officials say the explosions occurred over a four hour time span and were the work of insurgents.
The first set of explosions occurred around 7 a.m. and included 4 roadside bombs and 1 car bomb. The attack targeted federal police headquarters. Officials say 2 people were killed and 15 others were wounded in those explosions.
The second attack targeted the convoy of an official of the Interior Ministry. The official was not harmed, but 1 person was killed and 5 others were wounded.
At least 7 roadside bombs were then detonated in various areas of Baghdad, including near a police patrol, a hospital and a market. A total of 3 people were killed and 28 others wounded in those explosions.
The most deadly blast occurred in north Baghdad. A security official say police were at the scene of an explosion that allegedly targeted an American military convoy when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives. At least 12 people died and 23 others were wounded.
