Oscar De La Hoya Enters Rehab For Substance Abuse

TMZ reports former boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya has entered rehab for substance abuse. The celebrity gossip site says De La Hoya voluntarily checked in to a facility in California “sometime within the last few weeks.”

The 38-year-old issued a statement to TMZ confirming he is addressing “certain issues.” De La Hoya did not say what those issues are.

"After doing an honest evaluation of myself, I recognize that there are certain issues that I need to work on. Like everyone, I have my flaws, and I do not want to be one of those people that is afraid to admit and address those flaws,” he said. "Throughout my career and my life, I have always met all challenges head-on, and this is no different. I am confident that with the support of my family and friends, I will become a stronger, healthier person.”

“I ask for respect and privacy as my family and I go through this process,” De La Hoya added.

De La Hoya’s boxing career spanned over 17 years and earned him the nickname “The Golden Boy.” He won 10 world titles and defeated 17 world champions.
