Marion Bartoli earned a huge upset in the fourth round of the Australian Open as she knocked off number-one seed Jelena Jankovic in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals in Melbourne.
Bartoli was able to control the match with a strong service game as she won 81 percent of her first serves compared to Jankovic’s 56 percent. Jankovic had a hard time establishing her serve and Bartoli capitalized by breaking her on 5 of her 12 opportunities.
Jankovic reached the semifinals at the Australian Open last year and continues to struggle at Grand Slam events as she is yet to capture a title despite earning the world’s number one ranking.
