Australian Open 2009 Round Four Results: Dinara Safina Fights Her Way into Quarterfinals with Win Over Alize Cornet

Dinara Safina has reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open after fighting her way past Alize Cornet in three sets 6-2, 2-6, 7-5.

Despite hitting 52 unforced errors including 8 double faults Safina managed to collect 32 winners compared to just 19 for Cornet. Cornet struggled to establish her serve as she won just 50 percent of her first offerings, opening the door for Safina on the second.

Safin a has yet to win a Grand Slam singles title but reached the finals at the French Open last year before falling to Ana Ivanovic. She reached the semi-finals of the U.S. Open last year as well.
