Immigrant children excel in science and math

By: Daun Lee

The debate over immigration is a major political debate. The need to reform the countries immigration laws have compelled many states to pass their own laws to crackdown on illegal immigration.  A study released today showed that immigrant children excel in science which is a good argument to wage for those who are immigrant advocates.

The study released by the national Foundation for American Policy showed that 70 percent of the finalist who entered 2011 Intel Science Talent Search competition are children of immigrants. Another study released in 2004 showed that 60 percent of top science students and 65 percent of the top math students were born in immigrant studies.

The report concluded that “Liberalizing our nation’s immigration laws will likely yield even greater rewards for America’s future.”

At the heart of the current immigration debate are H1B visas, which allow skilled workers to reside in the US for 3 to 6 years. Reforming the H1B visas would allow these people with desirable skills to stay in the US as opposed to working with or setting up rivals in other countries. In the tough economic times the US is facing, workers who have science and math skills can propel our nation into a better economic future.

An immigration attorney can help skilled immigrants obtain a visa and possibly and possible citizenship. Immigration lawyers have the knowledge needed to gain a person US citizenship. Representation of an immigration attorney gives the immigrant a better chance of becoming a naturalized citizen
