Welcome Home is a different kind of addiction treatment center in Vancouver, British Columbia. The center was started in 2004 by a Canadian millionaire named John Volken on Christian beliefs.
"We want to get to the cause of the addiction," Volken said.
Volken truly believes that people can conquer the physical addiction to drugs or alcohol in a matter of weeks, but need at least up to five years in treatment to rebuild their lives. Welcome Home is designed on Christian principles to help addicts achieve that goal. The "students" live for free in a long-term, therapeutic community. After paying a registration fee of $387 dollars, the students learn to take responsbility for every part of their recovery.
"We teach all aspects of successful living. We put a lot of emphasis on leadership," Volken said. "A drug addict needs help. He cannot do it on his own."
