Australian Open 2009 Quarterfinals Results: Roger Federer Cruises into Semifinals with Straight Set Win Over Juan Martin Del Potro

Roger Federer bounced back from a marathon fourth round victory over Tomas Berdych to knock off Juan Martin Del Potro in straight sets in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open 6-3, 6-0, 6-0 to move into the semifinals.

 

Federer dominated the entire match as he hammered out 12 aces and won 86 percent of his first serves while limiting himself to just 9 unforced errors. Federer collected 38 winners compared to just 8 for Del Potro in a match that lasted less than an hour and a half.

 

With his title at the U.S. Open in 2008 Federer now has 13 Grand Slam singles titles, one shy of the record 14 Grand Slam singles titles held by Pete Sampras. Federer has won the Australian Open three times (most recently in 2007), Wimbledon five times and the U.S. Open five times.
