Andy
Roddick was able to handle the heat in his quarterfinals match against Novak
Djokovic at the Australian Open and is now in the semifinals after the Serb was
forced to retire in the fourth set. Roddick was in front 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-2,
2-1 when Djokovic could no longer handle the high temps in Melbourne.
Roddick
finished with 16 aces and won 87 percent of his first serves while limiting his
unforced errors to just 14 compared to 39 hit by Djokovic. The Serb looked
solid in the first set after taking the tie-breaker but in the second he began
to wilt under the heat and by the third set it was clear he would not be able
to continue.
Roddick
has one Grand Slam singles title to his credit, a 2003 win at the U.S. Open. He
has reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open on three occasions but fell
in each of those matches. The American has also appeared in a pair of Wimbledon
finals but lost to Roger Federer both times.
