Vera
Zvonareva continued her impressive push through the Australian Open, cruising
past Marion Bartoli in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals.
Zvonareva has yet to drop a set at the Australian Open and needed just over an
hour to dispatch Bartoli.
Zvonareva
hit 17 winners in the short match and broke Bartoli’s serve on 6 of 13
opportunities. The Russian had control of her serve throughout the match,
winning 74 percent of her first serves while Bartoli managed to win just 50
percent of her first serves and committed 26 unforced errors.
Zvonareva
has never won a Grand Slam singles title and her semifinals appearance is the furthest
she has ever reached at a Grand Slam singles event. She was knocked out of the Australian
Open in the first round last year.
