Officials have confirmed 7 NATO soldiers were killed Thursday in an attack in Afghanistan about 12 miles from the Pakistan border. The soldiers died when two road side bombs exploded as they were patrolling on foot in the Shorabak district of Kandahar province. NATO officials have not released the nationalities of the causalities, but an unidentified U.S. official confirmed all of the dead were Americans.
Kandahar border police chief Abdul Raziq said two Afghan policemen were also killed in the explosions. At least two others were wounded.
A Taliban spokesman said the group was responsible for planting the bombs. "A bomb was planted for them in a field," Taliban spokesman Qari Yousef Ahmadi told The Associated Press in a telephone call.
