Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina Are "Really Close Friends"
American Idol Finalists Are Like Brother and Sister
2011 American Idol winner Scotty McCreery says that he and Idol runner-up Lauren Alaina are like brother and sister.
Alaina set off rumors all over the country when she planted a big kiss on McCreery after he was named the Idol winner. But McCreery says that it was all just in good fun.
"She told me before the show she was going to [kiss me]," explained McCreery. "It was kind of like a joke. She's a character."

McCreery also explained that he and Alaina are more like brother and sister than boyfriend and girlfriend.
When asked if he and Alaina are an item, he replied, "We've been getting that question all morning. Me and her – it's a brother-and-sister relationship."
Just minutes after he was named the new American Idol, Scotty told Ryan Seacrest that "It's been a year since me and Lauren Alaina tried out now. We've been together since day one and we're going to stay together."
The pair's relationship dates back to the start of the Idol season.
"We are really close friends," McCreery said. "I met her on day one of Hollywood Week."
As for his future, McCreery says that he has already started recording an album.
"I recorded two songs last weekend," said McCreery. "It's going to be a good album. I got good songs."
