Octuplets Breathing on their Own as Doctors Say Babies Doing “Very Well”

All six boys and two girls delivered by Caesarean section at a Los Angeles hospital are now breathing on their own after doctors removed ventilators from three who were experiencing breathing difficulties earlier.

Born nine weeks prematurely, the unidentified mother had expected seven babies but during the delivery doctors discovered they were staring at octuplets. All eight babies are expected to remain in incubators at the Los Angeles hospital for several weeks.

The weights of the babies ranged from 1lb 8 ounces to 3lb 4 ounces but doctors expressed confidence that they would continue to put on weight.

It is just the second time in the United States that living octuplets have been delivered.
