Boeing
has announced plans to cut 10,000 jobs in 2009 after a workers strike in late
2008 resulted in a $58 million loss over the final three months of the year.
The
job cuts represent about 6% of the aerospace firm’s total workforce and include
the 4,500 job cuts announced earlier this month.
Boeing
was hit hard by a 58-day strike by machinists which delayed production on several
Boeing planes and prevented the delivery of nearly 70 aircrafts, both of which
resulted in expensive charges.
According
to CEO Jim McNerney the job cuts would be made “through attrition, retirement
and layoffs.”
