Australian Open 2009 Semifinals Results: Roger Federer Drops Andy Roddick in Straight Sets to Reach Finals

Roger Federer is one win away from tying Pete Sampras for most Grand Slam singles victories in a career after knocking off Andy Roddick in straight sets 6-2, 7-5, 7-5 in the semifinals of the Australian Open.

Federer played near flawless tennis as he hammered 16 aces and committed just 15 unforced errors while winning 83 percent of his first serves put in play. The Swede broke Roddick on 4 of 13 opportunities while allowing the American just three chances to break his serve, none of those were successful.

With his title at the U.S. Open in 2008 Federer now has 13 Grand Slam singles titles, one shy of the record 14 Grand Slam singles titles held by Pete Sampras. Federer has won the Australian Open three times (most recently in 2007), Wimbledon five times and the U.S. Open five times.
