Judge in Casey Anthony Murder Case Rules Defense Can Inspect Wooded Area Where Remains of Caylee Anthony Discovered

Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland has ruled that the defense team representing Casey Anthony can inspect the wooded area where the remains of Caylee Anthony were discovered last month.

Casey Anthony appeared in court on Friday and while no trial date was set Strickland did rule on several issues that had been brought before the court. Anthony’s attorney, Jose Baez, had been fighting for access to the wooded area less than a half mile from the home where Caylee lived. Strickland agreed that the defense should be allowed to inspect the area.

Casey Anthony, 22, stands accused of murdering her two-year-old daughter, a charge she has denied from the outset. Caylee disappeared in June but wasn’t reported missing for more than a month at which time Casey told investigators she had dropped Caylee off with a babysitter and when she returned both were gone.

Last month a meter reader discovered the remains of Caylee Anthony in a plastic bag left in the wooded area. Investigators were able to positively identify the remains as those of Caylee Anthony and have since linked a lot of evidence found at the scene to the home that Caylee shared with her mother and grandparents.

That evidence included a Winnie the Pooh blanket found at the scene that matched a set that was found at the home.
