Death Toll from Supermarket Fire in Kenya Reaches 22, Dozens Still Missing

At least 22 people have died while another 25 remain missing after a massive fire blazed through a Nairobi, Kenya supermarket on Wednesday.

Rescue workers continue to sift through the debris, uncovering the charred remains of those unable to escape the fire. Police are investigating claims that security guards at the supermarket locked the doors shortly after the blaze broke to prevent looting. Those clams have been denied by the supermarket.

There has been no announcement concerning what started the blaze but witnesses have said it spread quickly and consumed the building within minutes, trapping shoppers and employees and forcing many to jump from the stores roof.

Investigators have not been able to make their way through the entire store but believe several bodies remain inside.
