The International Security Assistance Force announced Thursday the arrest of an associate of the late Osama bin Laden. ISAF did not identify the man, but did say he is a “Pakistan-based attack planner” with links to al Qaeda. The man and “two of his associates” were taken in to custody during a raid Wednesday night on a compound in Balkh province, Afghanistan.
"The facilitator was a Pakistan-based attack planner and a close associate of senior al Qaeda insurgents," ISAF said in a press release. "He is a former associate of Osama bin Laden and [it is] suspected he was with bin Laden in Afghanistan in 2001."
The arrest comes one month after bin Laden was killed by a team of United States Navy SEALs in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Bin Laden was shot after refusing to surrender. He was buried at sea by the U.S. military. Since his death, insurgents have launched numerous “revenge attacks” in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
