Alcohol and drug treatment center
Michael's House underscored its teen
alcoholism rehabilitation program this
week, as part of its ongoing initiative to treat substance abuse among
adolescents. Catering to teens struggling with alcoholism, the Palms
Springs-based treatment center's adolescent program takes a holistic approach.
The addiction recovery center’s tailored teen alcohol treatment program
integrates psychological assessment, group therapy, family counseling, physical
fitness, nutritional assistance and targeted aftercare into its rehabilitation
approach.
"Research has shown that the human brain does not reach
full development until the age of 30," explained Krista Gilbert, Michael's
House Chief Executive Officer. "Our teen alcoholism program seeks to treat
the unique needs of adolescents in order to provide physical, cognitive, social
and emotional healing and prevent potentially permanent damage that addiction
can cause."
Incorporated into its comprehensive teen treatment program
is Michael's House's signature focus on Dual Diagnosis cases – instances where
mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders or
psychological conditions have occurred alongside alcoholism. Compassionate Dual
Diagnosis care has been at the heart of treatment since Michael's House opened
its doors in 1994; the center was founded by Arlene Rosen, whose late son
suffered from both addiction and mental health disturbances.
Employing the breakthrough Foundation
Treatment Method, Michael’s House has since provided coinciding psychological
and addiction expertise to teenagers, with individualized treatment plans
customized to teens’ addictions and challenges.
"During adolescence, wonderfully unique qualities of a
teenager begin to emerge," explained Gilbert. "At Michael's House, we
tailor our approach to the specific psychological disposition, learning styles,
addiction history and personalities of each client, in order to best position
them for success both in sobriety and in life."
