Amanda Brumfield, the daughter of actor Billy Bob Thornton, has been found guilty of aggravated manslaughter in the October 2008 death of a Florida toddler. A jury acquitted Brumfield, 32, of first-degree and aggravated child abuse. The verdict was delivered last Friday in the same courthouse where Florida mom Casey Anthony is currently on trial for the murder of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Anthony.
The charges against Brumfield stem from the death of 1-year-old Olivia Madison Garcia. Brumfield was babysitting Olivia when the toddler died of severe head injuries, which included a three-and-a-half inch fracture as well as bleeding and swelling in the brain. Brumfield claimed Olivia fell while trying to get out of her playpen and initially showed no signs of injury. Police said Brumfield waited at least 2 hours before she sought medical help for Olivia.
Brumfield will be sentenced in July.
