Two bank robbers apparently inspired by the recent Ben Affleck film “The Town” robbed an Illinois bank over the weekend. Like the robbery carried out by characters in “The Town,” the suspects wore nun costumes and brandished weapons.
Authorities say a male and a female stormed in to a TCF Bank brand in Palos Heights Sunday afternoon just before the bank was set to close at 2 o’clock. They jumped over the teller counter, forced employees to open the vault and filled duffel bags with cash. The pair fled the scene in a 4 door Chevrolet. There were no customers inside the bank at the time of the robbery. None of the employees were injured. Authorities have not said how much cash was taken.
The robbery is under investigation by local police and the Chicago FBI office. Anyone with information pertaining to the incident is asked to call the Palos Heights police at 448-5060 or the Chicago FBI office at 312-421-6700.
