Accuray (ARAY) Selects Overland (OVRL) Technology for Data Storage Solution

QualityStocks would like to highlight Overland Storage (NASDAQ: OVRL). Overland is the trusted global provider of effortless data management and data protection solutions across the data lifecycle. By providing an integrated range of technologies and services for primary, nearline, offline, archival, and cloud data storage, the company makes it easy and cost effective to manage different tiers of information over time.

In the company’s news today,

Overland Storage announced that Accuray Inc., a global leader in the field of radiosurgery, has chosen Overland’s Storage SnapServer N2000 as a solution to expand the data storage capabilities of its radiosurgery treatment systems.

Accuray’s CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery System is the world’s only robotic radiosurgery system with the ability to non-invasively treat tumors anywhere in the body. So far, the company reports that more than 100,000 patients around the world have been treated with the system, with treatment requiring between one and five sessions. Each session can create up to 250MB-500MB of data, creating enormous amounts of data that the company must store.

Overland’s SnapServer technology allows for seamless integration with CyberKnife, allowing for expanded database without additional requirements.

“ … In addition to providing customers with ten years of data storage that doesn’t require data transfers to temporary media, we wanted to eliminate the burden of performing patient record archive/restore management,” Justin Cambra, senior manager, radiotherapy technologies at Accuray stated in the press release. “We chose the SnapServer N2000 because it offered expandable storage options while still providing an easy-to-use system that we felt comfortable placing in customer sites that don’t have remote monitoring access. A key factor in our choice to work with Overland was the level of service they provide. Overland worked with us throughout the integration process.”

Accuray noted that to load a treatment plan into its CyberKnife treatment planning system, it required the ability to quickly and efficiently transfer between 250MB to 750MB. Accuray said that after evaluating several options, it chose the SnapServer N2000.

“Recognized by the market for being reliable, cost effective and easy to manage, SnapServer solutions deliver a powerful set of features that maximize application uptime, making it an ideal storage solution for healthcare providers like Accuray that must ensure accessibility of patient data at all times,” said Jillian Mansolf, vice president of global sales and marketing of Overland. “Designed to be easily deployed within existing IT environments, the SnapServer N2000 provides automated capacity expansion and simplified data storage for locations of any size.”
