Four “political hostages” have been released by Colombian leftist rebel group FARC following an agreement with mediators.
The hostages were said to be three police officers and a soldier and FARC has said they plan to release two politicians later in the week but a peace agreement between the rebels and the Colombian government is not likely.
All four released hostages were brought out of the jungle of Caqueta by the International Committee of the Red Cross. In releasing the “political hostages,” among a group of 28 believed to be held, FARC is hoping to gain freedom for several members currently held by Colombia.
