Paul Pierce scored 36 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and handed out 6 assists while Ray Allen added 22 points and the Boston Celtics (40-9) used a big first half to bury the Minnesota Timberwolves (16-30) and went on to win 109-101 on Sunday.
The Timberwolves hung with the Celtics in the first quarter but Boston led 29-24 heading into the second frame and then used a 9-0 run to get some breathing room and built a 62-44 advantage by halftime.
Minnesota climbed back to within six points in the third quarter but the Celtics closed the frame on a 10-2 run. The Timberwolves again cut their deficit to within six late in the fourth quarter but Boston wouldn’t allow them any closer.
Al Jefferson led the Timberwolves with 34 points and 11 rebounds while Randy Foye added 21 points and 9 assists in the loss.
