Super Bowl XLIII Scores: Pittsburgh Steelers Snag Sixth Title with Dramatic Win Over Arizona Cardinals

Ben Roethlisberger was 21/30 passing for 256 yards and a touchdown, James Harrison had a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown and Santonio Holmes collected 131 yards receiving including a 6-yard TD reception with 35 seconds left on the clock to lift the Pittsburgh Steelers past the Arizona Cardinals 27-23 in Super Bowl XLIII.

The Steelers were the first on the board as they took their opening drive down to the one-foot line before settling for a 3-0 lead on a Jeff Reed field goal after a Roethlisberger TD run was overturned.

That lead was extended to 10-0 early in the second quarter when Gary Russell pounded in a one-yard touchdown run but Arizona managed to answer as Kurt Warner found Ben Patrick on a one-yard toss to get within 10-7. With less than a minute left it looked like the Cardinals would head into the locker room with a 14-10 lead but Warner was intercepted by Harrison who went 100 yards, longest in Super Bowl history, as time expired in the half and the Steelers were in front 17-7.

Pittsburgh managed to tack on another field goal in the third quarter as Reed hit from 21-yards out and the Steelers appeared to have complete control of the game heading into the final frame.

Despite the deficit the Cardinals began to chip away at the Pittsburgh lead as Warner found Larry Fitzgerald on a one-yard touchdown to get within 20-14. With less than three minutes left on the clock the Cardinals caught a break when the Steelers were called for a holding penalty while Roethlisberger was in the endzone, resulting in a safety and putting the score at 20-16 with 2:58 remaining in the game.

Less than 30 seconds after the safety the Cardinals were celebrating the lead as Warner hooked up with Fitzgerald on a 64-yard touchdown pass to put Arizona in front 23-20. Unfortunately for the Cardinals the 2:37 left on the clock was plenty for Roethlisberger to lead his team down the field and with 35 seconds left on the clock her found Holmes in eth corner of the endzone and with a miraculous reception the Steelers captured their sixth Super Bowl title in franchise history.
