Mike D'Antoni Thinks He Will Be Kept as Knicks Coach

NY Knicks Coach Feels Good About His Future With Team

New York Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni feels confident that he will remain the head coach of the team, despite some drastic changes that have been going on with the club.

Former Knicks president and general manager Donnie Walsh recently stepped down from his position, which left many people wondering what the future of the team's power structure would be. But D'Antoni doesn't seem to think that his job is on the line.

"No, I feel good," D'Antoni told the New York Post. "I hate [that] Donnie is leaving. I owe a lot to him. We had three good years. He did exactly what he wanted and said he would do and he's got us in position to be one of the better teams in the NBA next year. That's to his credit.

"We worked well together. I appreciate his support and I feel good about us having a great year next season. It's all a coach can ask for, to have him give me that chance. He's put me in that position."

According to the paper, D'Antoni, who has $6 million and 1 year left on his contract with the team, will soon be meeting with Knicks owner James Dolan.

"This is the team Mike wants to coach," said D'Antoni's agent on Friday. "He spent two years putting it in position not only to have a winning record but a playoff appearance. This is where he'd like to continue to coach as long as they want him."
