Any book lover agrees there is nothing like the way a book takes you away to another place. New publisher, Summerside Press, took this idea to the next level and created the “Love Finds You” series, where real small towns across America are captured within the pages.
The newest release from the “Love Finds You” series is Love Finds You in Humble, Texas by Anita Higman (ISBN: 978-1-934770-61-0, $12.99, Summerside Press, Feb. 2009). This story brings the reader to the quaint town of Humble (pronounced “Umble”) in the middle of a love triangle involving two sisters, Trudie and Lane Abernathy. The story evolves through a tour of the town, including a local coffee shop, a restaurant with a banjo-wielding owner, and a local lingerie shop.
Higman spent much time researching the town of Humble, with assistance from the Chamber of Commerce. One woman in particular, Carolyn McCarty, was so helpful in shaping the town Higman included her in the acknowledgements and wrote a blog about her as a dedication.
“The publisher wanted women to be able to travel all over America through books, getting the feel of real small towns across our country,” says Higman. “So, since Humble, Texas was on their list, and I happened to live not far from Humble, it was a perfect fit.”
An award-winning author, Higman has 24 books published (several co-authored) for adults and children. She was named Barnes & Noble “Author of the Month” for Houston, as well as a New Favorite Author in the 15th Annual Heartsong Presents Awards. She has a B.A., combining speech communication, art and psychology, from Southern Nazarene University and is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers. Higman lives with her husband near Houston, Texas.
