A recall has been issued for enoki mushrooms by Phillips
Mushroom Farms due to possible listeria contamination. The Pennsylvania based
company is recalling 3.5-ounce packages of enoki mushrooms labeled with UPC
33383 67540 and sold from January 13 to 30.
Tests show the long, thin white mushrooms, which are
often used in Asian dishes, may be contaminated with listeria. Listeria causes
flu like symptoms including fever, muscle ache, nausea and diarrhea. It mostly affects
those with weakened immune systems, the elderly, pregnant women and newborns.
Retailers have been asked to remove the mushrooms from
their shelves. Consumers are instructed to return the mushrooms to grocery
stores for a full refund.
