National Putting Championship Releases Preview Video

The U.S. Putting Tour unveiled a preview of the putting course that will host its inaugural national putting championship in September. The video gives golfers an in-depth tour of the 12-hole putting course on The Crossings' two-tiered practice green.

"The Crossings' large practice putting green is an ideal venue for the 2011 USPT Championship," said U.S. Putting Tour president Jim Hartley. "This video shows golfers what they can expect in terms of some of the holes and the overall layout of the green."

The video includes shots of The Crossings' 25,000 square foot clubhouse, the view of the Pacific Ocean from the clubhouse, and the adjacent Carlsbad Sheraton Resort & Spa, which is offering preferred rates to participants in the championship.

Golfers in the national putting championship will play 72 holes on this 12-hole putting course in their first round of competition. A total of 72 golfers will advance from multiple days of first-round play to the second round consisting of 36 holes.

Another cut after Round 2 will get it down to the top 24 golfers based on their second-round scores. They will play 36 more holes on the same day and the total 72-hole score from rounds two and three will determine the 2011 USPT Champion.

The putting tournament is open to professional and amateur golfers. Professionals will compete for a $10,000 first prize and additional cash prizes, while amateurs will play for merchandise prizes. All competitors will compete for the title of America's Best Putter and the USPT Championship trophy.

Men and women will participate together, as well. Everyone over the age of 12 can enter the tournament at the putting tour website.
