Alabama passes tough immigration bill surpassing Arizona legislation

By: Daun Lee

The state of Alabama passed House Bill 56 which far surpasses immigration legislation passed by the state of Arizona. The bill passed in Arizona which is being contested in Federal courts was thought to be one of the strictest in the country.

According to the new Alabama immigration law, public schools are required to determine the immigration status of all students along with the costs associated with their education. The bill also bars any student who has illegal status from entering any public college or university after the age of 18. Any person who wishes to enter university should contact an immigration attorney to obtain citizenship.

In addition to the tough policies in regards to the educational system, police are required to inquire about the immigration status of anyone stopped. The bill also obliges employers to verify status of employees through an E-verify system. It also makes it a crime to knowingly rent to any person who is not a legal citizen as well as barring any businesses from tax deductions on wages paid to illegal immigrants. Illegal immigrants can become US citizens by hiring an immigration lawyer.

Many states have begun addressing the illegal immigration problems in their states in the absence of Federal legislation. The millions of illegal immigrants present in the US are encouraged to become citizens in order to avoid deportation. An immigration attorney will help a person realize their dreams of becoming an American citizen which will allow them to access all the benefits citizens enjoy.
