Eric Holder Confirmed, Becomes First African American Attorney General

In yet another first following the 2008 presidential election Eric Holder has been confirmed by the Senate and will become the first African American attorney general.

Holder was confirmed by a Senate vote of 75-21 with those opposing expressing concern about Holder’s stance on gun control and the current war on terrorism. Despite the concerns the former judge of the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia was seen as a lock to the Cabinet position.

Holder, 58, is the only African American in President Barack Obama’s Cabinet. He served as legal counsel for Obama during his presidential campaign and had been one of three individuals asked to help Obama select a vice-president.
