Strong waves caused a deadly boat accident off Indonesia on Monday. The KM Martashiah was carrying around 80 passengers when it was battered by strong waves and capsized in the Tanjung Dewa waters off the island of Kalimantan around 12 p.m. local time.
Officials say 33 people were rescued from the water and are currently being treated at a local hospital. At least 17 people have been confirmed dead and about 30 others remain missing.
Earlier this month, an Indonesian boat capsized in waters of southern Malaysia. The boat was carrying about 30 people when the accident occurred. Authorities rescued 13 people and said at least 17 others remained missing. Sources say the passengers were undocumented Indonesian migrants.
