Pakistani officials confirmed missiles apparently fired from United States drones killed at least 18 militants on Monday. The strikes happened in the northwest tribal region of South Waziristan, which borders Afghanistan.
According to reports, a total of 14 militants died when three missiles struck a house in the Shalam Raghzai region and another set of missiles destroyed a compound in Wacha Dana. The third attack targeted a vehicle traveling in the Shawal area. At least four people died in that attack.
A local arm commander said the death toll may not be accurate because local residents were reporting the information. “We don’t have troops on the ground, so information is hard to verify. Local residents do not necessarily provide accurate information on the number of causalities,” the commander said.
