Women’s alcohol and drug rehabilitation center The Orchid drew attention this week for its charitable efforts to raise funds for Futures Without Violence. The Florida-based addiction treatment center’s contributions to the domestic violence prevention charity’s work come as part of The Orchid’s burgeoning giving initiative for charitable causes relevant to women in recovery.
“At The Orchid, we witness firsthand the personal devastation child abuse and relationship abuse can cause,” explained The Orchid Recovery Center Chief Executive Officer Julie Queler. “We count it a privilege to be able to contribute to the work that Futures Without Violence performs to eradicate household abuse in the United States and beyond.”
With a focus on at-risk populations and child safety, Futures Without Violence champions family safety in its social change efforts, playing a pivotal role in the writing and enactment of the 1994's breakthrough Violence Against Women Act in the U.S. Today, its efforts have expanded to reach men, youth, relief advocates, emergency and social workers, educators and community leaders in a joint effort to eradicate domestic abuse.
“Studies have repeatedly shown that physical, sexual and psychological abuse increase the likelihood of addiction development,” added Queler. “Our involvement with Futures Without Violence allows us to take part in their groundbreaking work towards the education, legislative changes, and community awareness necessary for violence prevention.”
The Orchid’s rehabilitation program specializes in survivors of traumatic incidents and abuse. Employing a holistic approach to recovery, The Orchid’s paradigm hinges on healing alcoholism and drug addiction in the safety and support of a community atmosphere. Patients receive a blend of therapies, including 12-step framework, alternative therapies, detoxification and individualized clinical therapy as part of the center’s tailored addiction treatment program.
