Female-focused alcohol and drug recovery program The Orchid announced fundraising efforts to benefit Women to Women International this week. The Palm Springs-based residential rehabilitation center will spearhead its own donations drive for the nonprofit as part of its continual charitable efforts.
With an emphasis on aid to survivors of emotional and physical violence, Women to Women International offers a 12-month intensive program to develop safety, security, community leadership and business acumen in women worldwide. The women’s rights organization's relief work first reached female survivors of Bosnian rape camps, expanding to raise and distribute more than $30 million in funding to more than 120,000 women worldwide. Many of the charity’s beneficiaries must overcome sexism, social prejudice, trafficking, displacement and abject poverty.
“At The Orchid, we feel a kinship with Women to Women International,” explained The Orchid Recovery Center Chief Executive Officer Julie Queler. “We share the goal of helping women transcend their backgrounds, traumas and disadvantages to emerge into healed, empowered lives.”
The Orchid Recovery Center addiction recovery program focuses on healing female trauma survivors from drug and alcohol addiction. Based on the groundbreaking “relational growth” model of addiction treatment forged by Karen Dodge, the center offers a peer-supportive environment in which to heal from drug addiction and alcoholism. With a focus on co-occurring mental health disorders, The Orchid weaves a variety of established therapies into its recovery program, including expressive therapies, 12-step principles, physical wellness, detoxification and cognitive therapy.
