Women's addiction recovery center The Orchid announced its acceptance of therapist referrals this week to its trauma-based alcohol and drug recovery program. Therapists throughout the nation can partner with patients to coordinate care at The Orchid, which specializes in treating substance abuse issues complicated by survival of traumatic events.
“Survivors of trauma become more likely to develop alcohol and drug addictions,” explained The Orchid Chief Executive Officer, Julie Queler. “As a Dual Diagnosis facility, we can treat issues surrounding trauma to bring psychological and emotional healing that includes – and transcends – addiction recovery.”
The Orchid’s community-based approach emphasizes trauma recovery in conjunction with addiction treatment. Concurrent mental health issues can be treated alongside drug and alcohol addiction, using a combination of intensive individualized and group therapy, 12-step modalities and proven trauma therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
"The
one treatment center that seems to help my patients the most is The
Orchid," explained Dr. Martin Swanson, New York psychotherapist. "The
Orchid Recovery Center is designed to help women not only break the addiction
cycle – but develop the specific life-skills necessary in order to maintain
their sobriety."
Based on the “relational growth” model of addiction recovery pioneered by Karen Dodge, The Orchid offers an array of services to clients as part of its holistic rehabilitation program. The Orchid's gender-specific addiction treatment program provides specialized care for women by placing an emphasis on female-centric issues such as self-image, intimacy problems, co-dependency, motherhood, post-partum depression and domestic violence.
"For many years, the focus of the addiction treatment field was on
men," explained Dr. Jeanine Head, a Chicago-based therapist who also
refers clients to the center. "Thanks to the work of these intelligent,
compassionate professionals, women who are living with addiction now have a
gender-specific treatment program to call their own."
