Almost two dozen militants were killed Wednesday in a suspected drone strike in Pakistan near the border of Afghanistan. Pakistani intelligence officials say four missiles apparently fired from a United States drone hit a militant training camp in North Waziristan and killed 23 people.
The attack follows three suspected drone strikes on Monday in which 18 militants were killed in South Waziristan. According to reports, a total of 14 militants died when three missiles struck a house in the Shalam Raghzai region and another set of missiles destroyed a compound in Wacha Dana. The third attack targeted a vehicle traveling in the Shawal area. At least four people died in that attack.
Last week, al Qaeda military leader Ilyas Kashmiri was reportedly killed when a drone missile hit a compound in South Waziristan. Kashmiri, who was considered to have been a top contender to take over as head of al Qaeda following the death of Osama bin Laden last month, had a $5 million bounty on his head from the United States.
