Four leading whiskeys from Jack
Daniel’s, the oldest and one of the biggest-selling distilleries in the United
States, will be featured at a complimentary tasting on Tuesday, June 14, at
6:30 p.m. at downtown Houston bar Reserve 101.
The distillery, a National Historic Site, was licensed in 1866. Jack Daniel’s still uses the same cool, pure, iron-free cave spring water from the Hollow at Lynchburg, Tennessee, to produce its whiskey. Ironically, the distillery is located in a county that has been dry since Prohibition. The complimentary tasting will feature Old No. 7 Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Sour Mash Whiskey, Gentleman Jack, Single Barrel Select Tennessee Whiskey and the distillery’s newest product, Jack Tennessee Honey. “Jack Daniel’s is an iconic whiskey brand, and we’re proud to include it among the 180-plus varieties of premium whiskey offered at Reserve 101,” said co-owner and whiskey expert Mike Raymond. “Over the years, Jack has expanded its product line, and we wanted to introduce our patrons to the full spectrum of the distillery’s whiskeys.”
Gentleman Jack is twice filtered
with sugar maple charcoal, to impart a mellower, smoother finish. It is the distillery’s finest whiskey, based
on a recipe developed by Jack Daniels himself.
When introduced in 1988, it was the distillery’s first new product in
100 years. Single Barrel Select
represents less than one percent of the whiskey produced by Jack Daniel’s,
matured in hand-selected individual barrels.
Jack Tennessee Honey, its first new product in a generation, is flavored
with honey liqueur. None of Jack’s
products are aged according to the calendar; it’s ready to bottle when the
master distiller says the taste is right.
Reserve 101 is located downtown at the corner of Caroline and Dallas, across from House of Blues. The neighborhood bar stocks the best whiskey selection in the region, along with other liquors, beer and wine. It’s also famous for its Signature Cocktails and infusions, organic material steeped in liquor to impart distinctive flavorings.
“Happy Hour,” with dollar-off beers and wines and half-price signature cocktails runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday with specials just about every day of the week, including Sundays.
