Tom Daschle Withdraws Nomination as Candidate for U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary

Despite the backing of President Barack Obama former Senator Tom Daschle has withdrawn his nomination to fill the role of Secretary of U.S. Health and Human Services.

Obama had tapped Daschle to fill the role of Health and Human Services in his Cabinet and had said he would continue to back his nominee but on Tuesday afternoon Daschle announced he would withdraw his name from consideration.

Daschle became the focus of controversy after it was discovered he had failed to pay more than $120,000 in taxes.
